Creating a social media strategy may seem like a fun thing to do when you have a spare evening; however, for it to be truly aligned with your goals - whether personal or business - the strategy must be carefully researched, curated, and implemented. Whatever your business goals, simply posting content here and there isn't enough. Let's take a step-by-step approach to how to create a social media strategy.

Define your goals
You may be bored to death of social media and marketing professionals telling you to set the parameters of what you aim for your social media to do for you and your business, but setting out clear goals and expectations is the first step to strategic success.
Some popular goals are:
Increasing brand awareness
Driving traffic to your website
Generating leads or sales
Boosting customer engagement
Building a community around your brand
Understand your target audience
To capture the audience who actually will want to purchase from your business, you need to know who they are, where they are, and what they need.
Here are some key things to consider:
Demographics (age, gender, location, life-stage)
Psychographics (interests, needs, and wants)
Social media preferences (which platforms do they gravitate towards?)
Once you gather this information, you can create an image of your target customer, and therefore, your socials strategy can be tailored to them specifically.
Remember, your target audience cannot be everyone!!
Conduct a competitor analytics report
Now that you understand what you want and what your consumer wants, you need to understand what your competitors want, too.
Analyse your competitors to understand what works in your industry. Look at:
Type of content
Engagement rates
Hashtags used
Post frequency
Use this key information to differentiate your brand and create unique content for your business.
Plan and create amazing content
When I say amazing, I don't always mean heavily edited, time-consuming or reams and reams of captions. These do have their place, but content must be varied yet consistent with your brand messaging following steps 1-3.
Some types of content to utilise:
Visual Content: High-quality images, videos, and infographics
Educational Content: Blog posts, how-to guides, and tutorials
User-Generated Content: Reposts of customer testimonials and experiences
Interactive Content: Polls, quizzes, and Q&A sessions
Live Streaming: Real-time interaction with your audience
Think about when, where, and how frequently you will post. This is often trial and error, as your audience will guide when they consumer your content.
Re-assess, adapt, improve
Social media is dynamic and ever-changing, so stay updated with the latest trends, algorithm changes, and audience preferences.
Experiment with new content formats, test different posting times, and refine your approach based on performance data.
Final takeaways...
Identify what YOU and YOUR BUSINESS need from your socials before anything else!
Narrow down your target audience to be as SPECIFIC and ACTIONABLE as possible.
Create VARIED and DYNAMIC content.
Stay ADAPTABLE and EVOLVING.
Let me know how you get on!!
